Now I know many people, specially those into prepping/homesteading and self-sufficiency circles really like cast iron cookware! And it’s not hard to see why cast iron is perferred by a lot of people as a good cast iron pan or dutch oven can last a lifetime if properly cared for. However they are very heavy (makes a great wepon ask Samwise Gamgee) and there are lots of ways people suggest taking care of them as well as just as many ways to cause rust and or ruin the seasoning on the pan and having to re-season the pan. Now I do have a few cast iron and cast iron enameled pans and dutch ovens and I like my cast iron pieces however they are really heavy and I don’t want to use them everyday due to them being heavy (yup I am lazy in this case and no I’m not ashamed to admit it!) I have issues with my left hand and wrist after a car accident and I normally use my left hand for lifting pots and pans.
So I am looking to get a new pot and pan set and I am leaning towards anything that does not contain non-stick coating, as I don’t want that coating on my pots and pans at this point. I am mostly looking at plain stainless steel sets with out the non-stick coating, I would love to have a copper or copper core set (had one ages ago in the UK). Over the coming weeks I should be posting more regularly once every 2 weeks (fortnight if you are British), don’t hold me strickly to it though as we all know life can get in the way of the best laid plans, I very much know this and learned the hard way.
Over the coming weeks I will hopefully be posting more (with pictures if I can remember).A big chunk of my posts will center around food and food prices for my area of Wyoming, as well as my “journey” into making pretty much everything from scratch at home think bread, cakes, cookies, copycat “junk” food, gummy candy, cheap quick meals to feed a family etc.
As I wrap up this simple post I want to give a update on Rosie she still has not had puppies I think I might have been 2-3 weeks off on due date, however I am making arrangements to take her to a vet in Laramie in the coming days as I am not putting my girl at risk. I also ask everyone reading this blog post to please (if you have a motor vehicle) check your tires make sure there is no screws or nails etc in your tires and to make sure you have proper tire pressure. I say this because on Friday my mother, my son and myself went to Laramie to pick up a few things and we were roughly 10-15 miles out of Laramie when our tire instantly went flat, thankfully there was a really nice guy who pulled over and helped us. He is currently working for the railroad not to far from Laramie and I know he might never see this but thank you once again for your help and I hope your blessed with everything you could want or need!
