So let me start off with giving a pup update it looks like Rosie miscarried at some point, thankfully everything appears to be fine nothing abnormal and in the future if we choose to breed her she should be ok to do so. I’ll admit it sucks because I just found out that my boy Jas (who would have been the dad) has nasal cancer and we are now currently looking into the best treatment for him I’m heart broken honestly and I am hoping he can get one of our girls pregnant at this point as I really do want a pup from him if at all possible because he is a really good dog!
With the above sad news I’ll turn to a bit bright side and that is my family does not really make a big deal out of Thanksgiving! But Christmas is another story & with me converting we also celebrate Hanukkah an have done so for the last 3-4 years now. So this year I plan on doing a big Hanukkah dinner for the whole family which of the 8 days to do it on though is another story! But my family likes turkey and thankfully our local ridleys this past week had whole Jennie-O turkeys on a buy one get one free sale, which I think was an amazing deal and I ended up buying a total of 4 whole turkeys for $41.01 which gave us around 54lbs of turkey altogether, I’m also thankful I did not listen to my mother to wait for the last 2 I got as we went back on thursday to pick up some meds and found that there was no more turkeys and would not be any til at least saturday (heck they might not get them in until after the sale is over as thats not unheard of). They also had 2lb blocks of cheese for $5.99 and I grabbed 2 blocks to freeze for later use. the store was also doing $5 food bank donation bags so I picked up a few of those to put in the food bank donation box, if your able to please donate to your local food bank or food pantry as there are genuine people that really do need the help.
Then at our local walmart I found seasonal baby blankets and matching loveys for 75% off I got 4 sets, blankets and loveys were sold seperately and were $1.50 each before tax (total of $12 before tax). I bought one for a relative who recently had a baby girl, I got one for my son who loves soft fuzzy blanks and loveys and the other 2 I am keeping for myself or anyone I know that has a baby. I also found a few do it yourself pickling pouches in real deal dill flavour by two men and a garden for only $2.50 each and they can be reused at least 3 times which is great as I am new to pickling anything! we got a total of 6 of those and my mother got herself one but in their sweet heat flavour I believe thats what flavour it was, I’ll update on how the pickles taste from these. I bought myself an 18-quart electric roaster it was around $55 before tax and I’m happy I did as that leaves my oven open to bake bread, stuffing, cakes, cookies etc. I found a couple of shirts for my husband for $1 each which is great. We did pick up a few bags of halloween candy at 75% off and that will hopefully last til at least the end of Dec, grandma and my daughter need to ration the candy better as it is a treat and not a real food source.
I also have been watching a couple of lessons through The School Of Traditional Skills (I highly recommend them), right now I am focusing on traditional sourdough, everyday bread baking, nourishing bone broth, water bath canning & bulk pantry. I do plan on also watching their homestead planning and design, garden season extenision & regenerative grazing for the homestead. I have also recently subscribed to Homestead Living Magazine which so far I really love the fact that once I subscribed I am able to view all previous magazines without having to buy each one in order to view it and that to me is the best thing since sliced bread! So between watching the videos, reading my new magazine subscription, reading books from Doreen Tovey (I suggest reading her books!), I have been trying to organize my whole house and honestly it looks like a bomb went off! I did not even know I had half the stuff I have found, like where the heck did it even come from? Because I don’t remember buying this stuff at any point in time!
I am also trying to teach my daughter to cook and it’s going ok but trying to reduce her electronic time and well that is going about as well as rounding up an angry swarm of bees! Not to mention my daughter is telling me her friends think my mother (grandma) and me are to strict with her, she is not allowed to go online unless it’s educational, she has no online capabilities to interact with people via her game consoles, because lets face it there are predators and some game platforms are not doing a thing about it if anything some look like they are encouraging it! I don’t allow her to watch watch youtube by herself as who knows what she will end up watching as a lot of it is not child friendly and she does not have a phone either and by those issues alone is why they think we are to strict! Ya no I’ll keep being a “horrible strict” mom, I was my daughters age when the internet started to really come into the home (any one remember AOL or the annoying dial up noise?) I did not have a phone til I was like 15/16, I honestly don’t think she needs one til that age to! I honestly don’t want her so dependant on tech for any reason anyway! Which I am going to start doing days were there is no tech for at least a half a day and then progress to a full day(s) for both kids to get them use the fact there might be a time where we don’t have tech due to a power outage or something.
Until my next post have a great day, week and month!
