I know its been a good while since my last post and since then the whole family has been sick at least 6 times since my last post to the point of some of us being too ill to get up out of bed, let alone feel like eating or drinking. We thankfully started feeling better the start of May and even more thankful that my husband came to see us for our daughters birthday and mothers day!
He was a big driving force behind getting a chicken coop and run built for our chickens and some goslings we got which I believe we have 2 girls and a boy, sadly one of the gosling girls seems to have a messed up wing it and we are unsure how that has happend and when. We were told by a lady that works at our town hall the 6 chicken rule was changed and we are allowed 12 chickens now but the goslings may have some issue if they are too loud and the no roosters rule is still in place. My mother and myself went to our local bomgaars a few weeks back and found they had chicks in again so I decided to have a look, and found they had naked neck pullets so I had to get 3 of them needless to say I was thrilled to have naked neck chickens again! Sadly we did lose one of them a few weeks after bringing them home, I have no clue what happened and it still bothers me!
However now we currently have an 8’x4’x4′ chicken coop, a tempory house for the goslings at roughly 4.5’x2.5’x3.5′ and a covered run that is 8’x24′ so a total of around 236 sq ft (around roughly 15 sq ft of space per fowl). We do plan on building to the side of the run to extend it to be a total of 16’x24′ and we will be hopefully making a better geese house by Sept. We do have solar lights down in the run and before winter hits we plan on running electric down to the coop and run and we will be adding insulation to the animal houses and heating panels for them. As well as adding something to the kids plastic pool we have for the geese to keep it warm for them and so the water does not freeze, also looking into a way to make it easier to clean for me.
My son has been in a special daycare/preschool for the last couple of months and by the time this blog post is up he will be out of it until July as they are doing a “summer” school for a few weeks. He has come a good way in only a few months he has now started to eat cheese puffs again and much to my dismay he now likes powdered donuts thanks to my mother. He is quite happy though with his new trampoline which is small enough to have inside thankfully as it has been either really hot (had my first sunburn in like 20 years) or it’s been a wash out (some of our yard has been flooded thankfully not the chickens or geese and down the road turned into a small lake). As for my daughter she no longer has school until Aug and she won 2 awards in school which I am very happy about one is for maths and the other is for being a model student! I did sign her up for a summer reading program however I don’t know if she turned it in as lately she has been hiding that kind of stuff and she has been punished for this however I think I will need to make punishments a bit harsher in the future. I do plan on getting her to practice her writing this summer as well as teaching her some basic cooking. She will also be getting chores this summer as I think it’s the right time and age for some simple chores now. I think that will wrap up this post, I’ll post pictures of the run etc possibly in my next post. As always thank you for reading my ramblings hope you have a great day, week and month!
